Belly Dancing is a Western name for a traditional West Asian/Middle Eastern form of dance. Though the name of the dance refers to the abdominal area, hips sway, shoulders shake, and arms and hands move about in a fluid motion. This low-impact cardiovascular dance is a great way for everyone to strengthen muscles throughout the body!

 About our instructor:

Kae came to FatChanceBellyDance from Japan in 2007. She became a regular at FatChance classes, and in less than two years, she was invited to join the professional troupe. Since she began performing and teaching in 2009 she has enjoyed being part of the belly dancing community. Kae can’t wait to share a fun, enriching class for all ages and abilities!

Hot Hula is a total body workout inspired by dances of the Pacific Islands. It incorporates easy to perform dance movements set to the sounds of traditional Polynesian drum beats fused with funky Reggae music, resulting in a modern, hip fitness workout.

Hustle is a type of disco dance which was popular in the 1970s. It is a partner dance done in ballrooms and nightclubs to disco music, having features in common with swing dance. Emily Coles teaches a Beginning Hustle class with exciting moves that are broken down and easy to learn. And tons of ABBA music will be provided to practice your new moves.

About our instructor:

Emily Coles began her dance career at age 5 trying dances in the styles of modern, jazz, tap, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian Samba, Salsa, Hustle, American Rhythm and smooth ballroom dances and many more. She now instructs lessons throughout the Bay Area in some of these styles. Emily also competes internationally in same-sex Standard and Latin dance. She and her dance partner hold many national championship titles.

DJ T-Bone Join DJ T-Bone, DJ Charis’ apprentice, in an
afternoon of dancing to Funk and Techno music!
Funk is a music genre that originated in the 1960s
when African American musicians blended soul
music, jazz and R&B into a rhythmic, danceable
new form of music. Techno is a form of electronic
dance music with repetitive instrumentals that
emerged in Detroit, Michigan during the 1980s.
Have a funky techno time dancing for the health
of it!

Let instructor Rossy Leon show you the moves to Zumba – a dance fitness program that combines Latin and international music with steps based on salsa, merengue, cumbia, reggaeton and samba that makes exercise fun. The “Gold” part means it is an easier version of Zumba. Of course, Zumba is a blast and an easy way to burn calories without even realizing it.

 About the instructor:

Rossy Leon is a very popular San Francisco Zumba instructor who is
donating her time and talent. She returns to Dance Out Diabetes for
another not-to-be-missed class. Rossy teaches at a pace everyone can
follow, including those requiring chairs or wheelchairs, and those
who feel they have two left feet.

Bollywood is a popular Indian dance form that developed in the Indian cinema and has since changed tremendously over the years. All ages and fitness levels will have a blast getting their heart going with Priya Nykan’s Bollywood class!

Priya Nykan has danced in the style of Bharata Natyam, a
classical Indian-style dance, for the past 15 years and is the
Founder and Director of Hip-Hop Natyam. She has explored
her heritage through many facets of Indian dance and is
excited to share her passion for dance as an instructor for
Dance Out Diabetes’ Bollywood class!

Hip Hop is an exciting style of dance that was developed in New York in the 1960s with influences of jazz, rock, tap, and African-American and Latino cultures. Hip Hop is one of the latest social and contemporary dance styles that feature three forms: breaking, popping, and locking (but not hips, joints, or doors).


About our instructor:

Eddie Garcia toured internationally with Tony! Toni! Tone! With this class he tones it down so that it is fun and doable no matter what your level. Eddie is back for his fourth DOD session and is ready to get funky!

instructor. She will show you an upbeat style of workout. Get
ready to get your “ami” on!
